Solid ratings for C4

Two million people tuned in to the British Comedy Awards last night, slightly up on last year’s event.

According to overnight figures, the live ceremony averaged 1.84million viewers for Channel 4, plus another 160,000 on Channel 4 +1.

The total is 150,000 viewers up on the combined figure for last year.

But it is down almost 750,000 on the 2010 awards – actually held in January 2011 – the first year Channel 4 had aired the ceremony. The last time they aired on ITV, in 2009, they averaged 4.8million viewers.

Hosted by Jonathan Ross the ceremony rewarded Hunderby, the stars of the Thick Of It, Sacha Baron Cohen and Jack Whitehall, who was voted King Of Comedy by viewers. Click here for all the results.
