Adam Hills to deliver C4's Xmas message

Pride of place for Aussie comic

Adam Hills is to deliver this year’s Alternative Christmas Message on Channel 4.

He follows an eclectic list of names to take the slot, ranging from Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to Ali G.

It follows the exclusive deal the Australian comic signed with the broadcaster in October, on the back of the success of The Last Leg, his light-hearted show about the Paralympics.

Channel 4 said: ‘This year's summer of sport culminated in the greatest Paralympic Games ever. Comedian Adam Hills contributed to this rewriting of perceptions with The Last Leg, his critically-acclaimed programme.’

The message will air at 4.20pm on Christmas Day – more than an hour later than the Queen’s traditional address.

Hills is making another series of the Last Leg – also featuring fellow stand-up Josh Widdicombe – in 2013, while Channel 4 will also be showing a stand-up special Hills recorded in the West End this autumn.

Other names who have previously delivered the Alternative Christmas Message – which began in 1993 – have included Marge Simpson, Stephen Lawrence’s parents Doreen and Neville, and the Rev Jesse Jackson.
