Harry Hill goes dark

Show cancelled by blackout

Harry Hill had to cancel a gig last night after a massive power cut hit the town of Newbury.

He was due to perform a warm-up gig for his 2013 Sausage Time tour in the town’s Corn Exchange – but the venue was evacuated when the electricity supply failed.

The lights went out at 7pm, and although power was restored to the venue at around 8.20pm, it was too late for Hill's performance to go ahead.

The comic was later spotted taking refuge in the Wetherspoons pub next door to the theatre.

Around 10,000 homes in the Wiltshire town were hit by a blackout, which Southern Electric said was caused by debris and trees falling on overhead power lines as stormed lashed the area.

Hill’s spokesman said a replacement show would be organised for a later date.

The venue has not yet responded to a request for comment.
