David Mitchell weds Victoria Coren

'Beautiful' London ceremony

David Mitchell married Victoria Coren at a ceremony in Belsize Park, North London, today.

Victoria's brother Giles gave the bride away, as their father - humourist Alan - died in 2007; while Mitchell's long-term comedy partner Robert Webb was best man.

Writer Wendy Bain - the wife of Peep Show co-creator Sam Bain - tweeted: 'David Mitchell & Victoria Coren's wedding was so romantic. Lovely, beautiful ceremony. Victoria looked breathtaking - a well suited pair!'

Other guests included David Baddiel and his wife Morwenna Banks, Jimmy Carr, Sandi Toskvig , Barry Cryer and Claudia Winkleman, who was a bridesmaid.

In his recent autobiogrpahy, Back Story, Mitchell described how he'd never had a decent relationship before meeting Coren.

'I’d had the odd one-night stand here and there. I thought maybe it wouldn’t work out for me,' he said. He was smitten with Coren from the moment he met her, but it took three years for them to get together.

'She’s clever, funny, beautiful,' 38-year-old Mitchell said. 'I think she’s amazing. She’s brilliant at what she does. For three years I thought about her all the time, and I still do but in a much happier way.

'I didn’t know whether I was built to be in a couple and finding that I am is tremendous. Life is a lot less bewildering and stressful when there’s someone to talk to who you know will back you up whatever happens.'
