Joe Biden, sitcom star

Vice-President to appear on Parks & Rec

American vice-president Joe Biden is to make a cameo appearance on the sitcom Parks and Recreation.

The newly re-elected VP will guest-star in next Thursday’s instalment of the NBC comedy when star Amy Poehler’s character, city councilwoman Leslie Knope, visits the White House, dreaming of it being her future home with her fiance.

Knope’s crush on Biden has been a running joke in the show – and in one episode last series said: ‘Joe Biden is on my celebrity sex list — well, he is my celebrity sex list.’

Executive producer Michael Schur told Entertainment Weekly this was his ‘No 1’ scoop, saying: ‘It was a bigger deal to us in some ways that she meet Joe Biden than it was that she meet Barack Obama.’

He added that the vice-president was ‘so much less difficult than we ever possibly imagined’ as his family were fans of the show.

Biden filmed his brief scene in Washington in July – but they could only be shown now because of impartiality rules in the run-up to the Presidential elections.

Here is his first moment on screen:
