Take That star to appear in sitcom

Gary Barlow is joining the cast of Miranda, the BBC has confirmed.

The X Factor judge is defecting from ITV1 to appear – as himself – as a possible love interest for Miranda Hart in one episode of the sitcom.

A BBC spokeswoman said the singer will 'get friendly in an unexpected way" with comic actress Miranda Hart'.

Barlow – who was exposed as a tax avoider like Jimmy Carr earlier this year – has already filmed his scenes for the new series, which starts in December.

Barlow and Hart worked together at the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations this summer.
