Citizen Khan sheds viewers

Audience down 640,000

BBC One sitcom Citizen Khan has lost almost a fifth of its audience between its first two episodes.

Extensive media coverage of those unhappy over its portrayal of a Muslim family did nothing to boost the comedy’s ratings, which settled at 2.77 million people.

That’s 640,000 down on the audience for the opening episode a week ago. Nonetheless, it remained the most-watched show in the 10.35pm slot.

The show, created by Adil Ray, has also been under fire for being dated an unfunny... although similar criticisms did nothing to dent the popularity of Mrs Brown’s Boys.

However, the Brendan O’Carroll series, at a similar post-watershed time, grew its audience over its first two episodes last year.
