Inbetweeners gets Hollywood remake

New movie set to be greenlit

The Inbetweeners are going to Hollywood, with plans for a US film version of the teen comedy under way.

According to trade website Deadline, original writers Iain Morris and Damon Beesley will write the script for the new movie – with Morris directing.

It will be the first film he has directed, having only previously helmed one episode of the E4 series.

The news comes six weeks before the American TV remake of the Inbetweeners makes its debut on MTV, with Joey Pollari as Will McKenzie, Bubba Lewis as Simon Cooper, Zack Pearlman as Jay Cartwright and Mark L. Young as Neil Sutherland.

It is unclear whether this cast will also star in the new film version.

The British film spin-off grossed more than £45m at the box office worldwide last year – despite costing a relatively modest £3.5million to make. And the takings will rise when it is released in the US on September 7.

In contrast, the Hollywood movie – to be produced through Beesley and Morris's company Bwark – will have a budget approaching £10million.
