Jerry Lewis collapses

Fails to present award to Tom Cruise

Jerry Lewis has been rushed to hospital minutes before he was due on stage to hand Tom Cruise an award.

The 86-year-old comic collapsed due to low blood sugar just before he was to take the stage in New York last night.

Lewis was due to be honoured with the Friars Club Applause Award.

Chairman of the Friars Foundation Joseph Zappala told the audience: ‘I am sorry Jerry couldn't be here tonight, but I know he is going to be fine’

It is believed that Lewis was later released from hospital and was resting at a Manhattan hotel.

Ten years ago Lewis collapsed before going on stage at the London Palladium.
