More comedy industry expert have been added to the Chortle conference next week.

The event in London’s Soho Theatre on Wednesday (13th) is aimed at giving invaluable advice and contacts to comedians just starting out in the industry.

Micky Flanagan’s agent Christian Knowles – whose clients also include circuit favourites such as Gary Delaney and Hal Cruttenden – has joined the panel of agents.

Isabel Fay, whose Thank You Hater! video about online trolls has gone viral today, is set for the panel on how to harness the internet to build an audience. She will be joined by Kelly McGolphin, a comedy producer at Eyeworks, who has made the Dr Brown Comedy Blaps for Channel 4 and the Jazzie shorts for the BBC, and online marketing guru Myles Dyer from Channel Flip.

Evening Standard comedy critic Bruce Dessau has also joined the conference, chairing two sessions sharing all you need to know about taking a show to the Edinburgh Fringe and explaining how to pitch TV and radio ideas.

That panel will include such vital figures as Channel 4’s comedy commissioning editro Nerys Evans, BBC executive editor for comedy Chris Sussman, BBC radio comedy producer Julia McKenzie; Avalon Television’s Richard Allen-Turner – whose creduts inclde Lee Nelson’s Well Good Show and Harry Hill’s TV Burp, and Gary Reich, managing director of How Not To Live Your Life producer Brown Eyed Boy.

Other valuable contacts attending the day include promoters, bookers, producers and venue bosses – all sharing their insider knowledge of the comedy scene – while Friday Night Dinner creator Robert Popper and stand-up Richard Herring will share their experience from a writer and performer’s side.

Richard Herring started his comedy career in the late 80s with Stewart Lee while at Oxford University. He has subsequently performed a series of acclaimed solo shows at Edinburgh and on tour. He builds his live audience through a daily blog and regular podcasts rather than from mainstream TV exposure – although he has made a number of appearances on the small screen, as well as writing shows such as the comedy-drama You Can Choose Your Friends and 37 episodes of Time Gentlemen Please, with Al Murray.
