Matt Lucas awards to return

BBC orders second series

BBC One has ordered a second series of The Matt Lucas Awards.

Recording will start in the autumn for broadcast early next year.

The show, which started life on Radio 2, featured celebrities such as Jason Manford, Richard Madeley, Johnny Vegas and Sue Perkins providing nominations in categories like Smuggest Nation of People, Most More-ish Food and Most Comprehensive But Utterly Useless Knowledge.

It started its run in April with 2.3million viewers, just above BBC One’s average for the 10.35pm timeslot.

Lucas told his Twitter followers: ‘Delighted to announce that The Matt Lucas Awards will be returning to BBC One for a second series in 2013.’

The new series has been commissioned by BBC One controller Danny Cohen and controller of comedy commissioning Cheryl Taylor.
