2m tune in to Derek

But more watch an old Peter Kay show...

Just over two million viewers tuned in to Rick Gervais’s new show Derek last night – above the average audience for Channel 4 at the time.

1.9million watched at 10pm, almost 25 per cent up on the slot average, with another 246,000 watching on the +1 channel an hour later.

Meanwhile, Russell Howard’s Good News returned for its sixth season on BBC Three, winning a more-than healthy 850,000 viewers – more than twice the average for the 9pm slot. he figure was in line with the 882,000 average audience the fifth series won last year.

But both these shows were overshadowed by a re-run of an old Peter Kay stand-up special, Live At The Bolton Albert Halls, which drew 3.35million viewers to Channel 4 at 9pm.
