The biggest threat to comedy? Dave

Russell Howard bites the hand that feeds

Russell Howard has slammed the TV channel Dave, claiming it is the ‘greatest threat’ facing comedy.

In an interview, the comic criticised the station’s endless repeats – even though it airs his own show, Russell Howard’s Good News.

He made his comments when the Guardian asked him what the greatest threat to comedy was. Howard replied: ‘The TV channel Dave. Everything is repeated there; they just play the same shows over and over.’

The channel also reruns old series of Mock The Week, which made Howard’s name. However, the 32-year-old added that he wouldn’t like to do panel shows ever again.

‘They're tricky,’ he said. ‘You never know what the atmosphere will be like, and you don't get a say in what goes out.’

On its website, Dave calls Howard ‘the thinking woman's cuddle bunny of choice’.

He was speaking to plug the sixth series of Good News, which starts on BBC Three on Thursday. An earlier episode of the show is on Dave on April 21.
