The heat's on...

Chortle's student contest kicks off in Glasgow

Chortle’s hunt for the funniest student of 2012 kicks off in earnest today, with the first heat taking place in Glasgow.

Scott Agnew will compere the event in Queen Margaret Union, showcasing 13 of the most promising student acts in Scotland. The heats then continue in London next Tuesday and on into the next month.

This has been a record-breaking year for entrants, with more than 300 hopefuls applying to take part. We have added a second London heat to accommodate more of them, while there are a number of low-key ‘auditions’, not open to the general public, to ensure everyone will be seen by judges.

The Student Comedy Awards are this year powered by The Sims 3, with the ultimate winner – crowned at the Edinburgh Fringe in August – receiving £2,500, as well as a vital leg-up into the world of professional stand-up.
