White Van Man drives to US

ABC orders pilot episode

America’s ABC network has ordered its very own version of BBC Three comedy White Van Man.

The rewrite of one-time stand-up Adrian Poytnon’s script has been in development for around four months, and now the network has ordered a pilot.

But the deal depends on producers finding the right cast to play the roles originally taken by the likes of Will Mellor, Clive Mantle and Georgina Moffett.

My Name Is Earl executive producer Bobby Bowman wrote the US adaptation, which is announced days after it was revealed that NBC is piloting its own version of Channel 4’s Friday Night Dinner - overseen by the man who made such a success of the US Office, Greg Daniels.

A second series of the original White Van Man – a phrase not common in America – is due to air on BBC Three next month.
