Honouring Britain's funny women

Women In Film And TV Awards

Victoria Wood, Jo Brand and Sue Perkins have been honoured at the Women In Film And TV Awards.

Wood received the lifetime achievement award at today’s ceremony at the Park Lane Hilton in London, hosted by Miranda Hart.

Perkins won the BBC News And Factual Award for her work on one of the surprise hits of 2011, The Great British Bake Off, while Brand won the writing award with Joanna Scanlan and Vicki Pepperdine for their sitcom Getting On.

Other award-winners included actress Emily Watson and BBC Two controller Janice Hadlow

Women In Film And TV chief executive Kate Kinninmont said: ‘An area where women have traditionally been conspicuous by their absence is TV comedy, and this year we have a feast of funny femmes fatales in our awards line-up, from Sue Perkins, Joanna Scanlon, Vicki Pepperdine and Jo Brand to the iconic Victoria Wood.

‘Every single one of our winners is an inspiration to all of us in the business.’
