Jack Whitehall for a comedy award?

'People's choice' shortlist announced

Jack Whitehall could win a British Comedy Award ahead of such well-established stars as Graham Norton and Jo Brand.

They have been nominated for the King or Queen of Comedy Award – which is chosen by public vote – alongside David Mitchell Miranda Hart and Sarah Millican

However 23-year-old Whitehall’s chances have been given a boost after receiving the backing of Britain’s bestselling newspaper, The Sun.

Their TV Biz column today urges readers: ‘Vote Jack Whitehall at the British Comedy Awards’ – arguing he deserves the accolade for his portrayal of JP in Channel 4’s Fresh Meat.

To vote for the King or Queen of Comedy, call 0901 616 4444 and press 1 for David Mitchell, 2 for Graham Norton, 3 for Jack Whitehall, 4 for Jo Brand, 5 for Miranda Hart and 6 for Sarah Millican. Calls cost 36p from a BT landline.

Voting closes during the comedy awards on Friday December 16.
