Doug Stanhope to tour UK

33 dates next year

Doug Stanhope has announced his longest ever UK tour – with 33 dates next spring.

The outspoken American comic will start his tour in Bolton on March 6, and include a return to the Hammersmith Apollo, where he played his biggest ever gig this year.

But the theatre are rather conventional venues for Stahnope, who recently played Iceland’s Litla-Hraun maximum security prison, while his current DVD was recorded in an abandoned sewing machine factory and German war bunker in the Grünerløkka suburb of Oslo.

Stanhope often praises UK audiences, for example, telling a paper in Pittsburgh last year: 'They're great audiences, and they're smart, and they're attentive. They understand. They pay more than here. It's much better than being here.

'All the stuff you resort to over here to get a laugh when you're over the heads of the crowd would get you groans over there. You try to dumb down your material over there'
