Catherine Tate lands an Office job

Recurring role in NBC sitcom

Catherine Tate is to join the cast of the US version of The Office.

The actress made a guest appearance in the final episode of the last series as one of the candidates being interviewed to replace Steve Carell’s boss character.

Tate will reprise that role – of Nellie Bertram – in February, and stay with the show for the rest of series eight. Her character, a friend of the company’s chairman, will be hired as a misguided special projects manager.

Executive producer Paul Lieberstein said: ‘Catherine is hysterical. We introduced her briefly in last season's finale and knew she had to be a part of the show somehow.

‘We'll meet her again as corporate's special projects manager, and her relationship with Robert California [the chief executive, played by James Spader] will be far from professional. We're thrilled that she's joining the cast,.’
