Ricky Gervais joins Twitter

'But I'm still not sure of the point'

Ricky Gervais has started posting on Twitter – almost two years after first signing up.

The comic opened an account in December 2009, but posted just six messages before concluding: ‘I am sorry, but I am going to stop these tweets because I don't see the point.’

However Gervais, a prolific blogger, returned on Thursday asking: ‘Hello. Anybody there?’

He his since had his account verified to prove it is genuine, and posted another nine messages, mostly plugging An Idiot Abroad and Life’s Too Short.

One of them read: ‘I fucking love twitter now. I'm still not sure of the point, or how it will end, but its fun trying to work it out. Just like life really.’

His @rickygervais account already has 68,000 followers.
