Shere Hite, Ho Chi Min... and Peter Kay made of Marmite

WTF: Weekly Trivia File

  • ‘I've never been cast as someone who has sex. This face screams “virgin” apparently.’ Joe Thomas, of the Inbetweeners.

  • He’s always been a ‘love him or hate him’ comedian... and now an artist has created a portrait of Peter Kay from Marmite on toast. Nathan Wyburn, 21, who has previously created Marmite portraits of the Queen and Simon Cowell, has replicated Kay’s current tour poster using 30 slices of white toast. The edible artwork is on display at The Printworks in Manchester until the end of Kay’s tour. At least he didn’t make it out of garlic bloody bread...

  • From this week’s obituaries, a nice story about how TV used to work, in the days before everything was referred through layers of management. The BBC once had the audacity to ask David Croft and his writing partner Jimmy Perry, to send a script in advance. They duly did – but wrapped it in several envelopes and several layers of Sellotape, ensuring it would take half an hour to open. They were never again asked for scripts in advance.

  • Ricky Gervais has brought Grace Kelly's former apartment on New York’s Upper East Side for £2.5million. He already owns another flat in the pre-war Barbizon building on East 64rd Street, which he brought for £1.1million in 2008. The new purchase has two bedrooms, two bathrooms and views of the city skyline from all four directions, while residents of the building enjoy a private gym and club salon with a 20-seat screening room.

  • Rapper Professor Green had never seen live stand-up before this week, when he went to the recording of Live At The Apollo with Alan Carr and Micky Flanagan. He loved the show, and tweeted afterwards: ‘There was some guy called Shane Walsh as well who was joooookes!’ He later realised his mistake and added: ‘@seannwalsh scarily observant. Massively impressed! Will definitely check the show out again.’

  • Meanwhile, feminist sex researcher Shere Hite was spotted in the Rose and Crown, Walthamstow, East London this week, in the audience for the Glee 17 comedy night. Why doesn’t Heat magazine cover these sort of celebrity spottings?

  • Marvel at his magnificently ornate language: ‘[It] tells him one thing the thing of Notification is coming as if God wants to take you to bigger heights, He pushes you through some level of disgrace to test your preparations, the dream is international and so shall it be.’ It comes from a Ghanaian news report about local comic Derick Kobina Bonney being booed off stage... it’s sure more eloquent than saying ‘he died on his hole’.

  • And speaking of bad gigs:

  • The Drayton Court Hotel in Ealing, West London, is home to the No 5 comedy club these days... but in 1914 Ho Chi Minh, the future Vietnamese revolutionary, worked in its kitchens.

  • Seinfeld star Jason Alexander has taken to wearing a semi-permanent hairpiece. After pictures of the suddenly hirsute funnyman appeared in the Press, he blogged: ‘You will likely see me wearing my hair more often than not in public but I have no shame in being seen as little old me, either. What I don't want to do is draw a ton of attention to it by wearing it one day and not the next. If you see it often enough, your eye just adjusts to it and you really don't notice. So yes, I'm still bald and yes, just like others in my profession who have to either wear make-up or dye their hair or undergo surgery, I now do a little something. It's honestly no big deal for me and hope it's not for you either.’

  • Tweets of the week:
Scientist Richard Wiseman (@ RichardWiseman ) : Hint: if you go to a funeral, don't have @timminchin 's pope song as your ringtone and leave your phone on. So sorry.
Jesse Belle (@ missjessebelle ): Google+ is like a gym membership. Everyone signs up for it but never uses it
Richard Turner (@ TheRichTurner ) : St Peter: Name? Arthur Lowe: Don't tell him, Croft!
