Stewart Lee’s first ever recorded set has been released on CD.

The 27-minute recording was made on January 15, 1988, when Lee was a 19-year-old English student at Oxford University.

It was taped in the jazz cellar of the Oxford Union debating society, which hosted regular comedy nights.

The recording is being put out on independent label Go Faster Stripe. Company founder Chris Evans said: ‘Although it was recorded on a big reel to reel recorder, the sound quality is still a bit on the historical side.’

The CD, priced £10, also includes a newspaper review of the gig and a poster that features Lee in his younger days on one side with a reproduction of the original gig poster on the other.
