Benidorm creator quits

Pastures new for writer Litten

The creator of ITV’s Benidorm has quit the show after four years.

Derren Litten has told fans he will not be writing any more episodes after the new series, which starts this Friday.

Writing on his official blog he said: ‘I’m really looking forward to series 4 although it is with mixed emotions because, for me, it is the end of my Benidorm journey.

‘I can’t begin to tell you what this show means to me, it has changed my life in so many ways. Not least the amazing friends I have made along the way.

‘I won’t be writing any more episodes of Benidorm, for me the story of the Garveys and all of the other characters I created ends at episode 6 of series 4.’

However, he said the show – which recently won the National Television Award for Most Popular Comedy – may well continue without him.

Litten started in comedy by writing with his old drama school, Catherine Tate, helping create her 2002 Edinburgh show and her BBC Two series. Benidorm was his first project after that.
