Arrested Development movie is on again

...with Peter Serafinowicz

The on-off Arrested Development movie appears to be on again – with Peter Serafinowicz landing himself a role.

The comic announced on Twitter that sitcom creator Mitch Hurwitz was writing a script for the hotly-anticipated big screen follow-up to the cancelled American sitcom.

Then Hurwitz confirmed that he hopes to get it produced and released within the year.

‘But I don't like to toy with the affections of our fans,’ he told the Digital Spy website. ‘They've been so supportive and we're so grateful, so I kind of hate to answer the question until I can say, “Yep, we've shot it, it opens next week”.

Serafinowicz said he was ‘too nervous’ to ask Hurwitz who he'll be playing in the film.

‘Mitch told me is that he's writing me into the Arrested Development movie, which I'm super excited about,’ he said. ‘It's all properly happening. I don't know anything about it other than that he's writing it and it's happening and I'm going to be in it, apparently.’

The show ran on Fox from 2002 to 2006, but its ratings never lived up to critical acclaim. The possibility of a movie was referenced in the final episode, but plans have hit a number of hurdles over the past years.
