Jason Manford to host mobile phone awards

It’s a brave move for a comedian who landed in so much trouble with his mobile phone… but Jason Manford has signed up to present next year’s Mobile News Awards.

The married stand-up quit The One Show last month amid tabloid reports that he had sent dirty Twitter message to a series of female fans.

Now he risks being the butt of more jokes after taking the corporate gig to present accolades to the mobile phone industry.

Heckles aside, the scandal has not affected his stand-up career, and he has added a number of arena gigs to his 2011 tour.

‘It was always going to be a challenge to find an act big enough to follow Michael McIntyre who presented the 2010 Mobile News Awards,’ said Mobile News editorial director Ian White. ‘We were chuffed when Jason said he would do it.

‘Well, we did give him his big break when he hosted the What Mobile Awards at Jongleurs in 2007. His fee was slightly less in those days.’

The awards will take place at The Hilton on London’s Park Lane on March 17.
