Tom Wrigglesworth lands radio series

...and Angus Deayton returns

Tom Wrigglesworth has landed his own Radio 4 series, based on his campaigning 2009 Edinburgh show.

The new programmes will see him take on various consumer affairs, following his success taking on Richard Branson over extortionate fares on Virgin Trains.

The live show which described his fight, prompted by a run-in with a jobsworth train manager, was previously made into a one-off radio show earlier this year.

Now he is to take on more issues, such as the bureaucracy of parking tickets, in a series of Tom Wrigglesworth’s Open Letters starting in February.

Meanwhile, Angus Deayton is also making a return to Radio 4 – where he started his career with Radio Active in 1981 – to host a new panel show, It’s Your Round.

The format of the show, which also stars in February, involves each guest coming up with their own round.

In shows recorded so far, Miles Jupp has challenged fellow panelists to predict what his dad will say next, and Arthur Smith has asked how much the panel though it would take for him to climb Nelson’s Column and paint the statue’s shirt purple.

As Chortle reported last month, Radio 4 has also signed up Showstopper!, the improvised musical show that has already been a hit in London and Edinburgh for a series. The BBC is also looking into the possibility of broadcasting a special live edition of the show.
