US version of The Thick Of It

Seinfeld’s Julia Louis-Dreyfus has officially signed up to star in the American version of The Thick Of It.

She had reportedly been in talks to headline the pilot episode for more than a month, but Hollywood industry website Deadline reports she has now signed on the dotted line.

Louis-Dreyfus will play Selina Meyer, a former senator who becomes Vice President. and finds the job is ‘nothing like she expected and everything everyone ever warned her about.’

Armando Iannucci co-wrote and directed the pilot – which is for the HBO network – and is one of three executive producers.

Louis-Dreyfus, who most recently starred in the US sitcom The New Adventures of Old Christine, will serve as a producer.
