30 Rock in a hard place

No Emmys for top sitcom

30 Rock failed to win a single primetime Emmy award last night, despite receiving 15 nominations.

It is a big comedown for the NBC sitcom, set behind the scenes of a weekly TV comedy show, a year after scooping six accolades at the awards.

Its three-year reign as best comedy was ended by Modern Family, which airs on Sky One in the UK, while two-time winner Alec Baldwin lost the best comedy actor gong to Jim Parsons of The Big Bang Theory.

Creator Tina Fey was also passed over for lead actress in a comedy, which went to Edie Falco for Nurse Jackie.

Modern Family also scooped the prize for best comedy writing, with star Eric Stonestreet winning best supporting actor in a comedy for his role as Cameron Tucker. Jane Lynch won the best supporting actress for Glee, ahead of 30 Rock’s Jane Krakowski.

And The Daily Show with Jon Stewart won outstanding music, comedy or variety series.
