Mongrels to return

BBC Three orders second serie

BBC Three has commissioned a second series of puppet comedy Mongrels.

Actor Dan Tetsell, who provides the voice of slow-witted cat Marion, broke the news via Twitter.

In the style of slang his character uses, he posted:’Lee Nelson! #Mongrels has got a second series.’

The first eight-part series, which ended two weeks ago, attracted around 300,000 viewers per episode.

Created by Adam Miller, the show featured a host of comic acting talent including Rufus Jones, Lucy Montgomery, Katy Brand and Paul Kaye.

Jones, who is currently in Edinburgh with his show No Son Of Mine also confirmed the news, tweeting: ‘Day off the show and Mongrels has just got a second series. I shall be celebrating in the traditional Scottish manner.’

The show had been accused of plagiarising Channel 4's 2001 sitcom Pets, featuring similarly foul-mouthed animals living like humans. However the BBC insisted Mongrels was a ‘new and original production’.
