Izzard to play first purpose-built open air comedy stage

Eddie Izzard is to headline the first outdoor stage purpose-built for comedy.

Verulamium Park in St Albans, Hertfordshire, is to be transformed into a festival-style open air venue for three nights of stand-up, each of which will also feature Dylan Moran and Reginald D Hunter.

The stage will require a crew of 450 to erect, with 66 trucks of equipment including two miles of cabling, 167 portable toilets and 17 miles of steel pipe.

The Laughs In The Park event will take place over the weekend of September 24-26, which organisers hope will provide balmy late-summer weather, rather than more autumnal conditions.

Tickets, priced from £35 to £70, are available from 0843 221 0100.
