Jason Manford's narrow escape

70mph blow-out en route to gig

Jason Manford had to cancel his show in Swindon on Wednesday night after a terrifying motorway accident.

The comic said he ‘nearly died’ when two of his tyres blew out in the fast lane of the M6, when he was travelling at 70mph.

His tour manager Alex Adamson was behind the wheel at the time, and managed to guide the Citroen hire car to the hard shoulder, narrowly missing other traffic.

Manford, who is taking over as co-host of BBC One’s One Show later this year, revealed his ordeal on Twitter.

He posted: ‘I was in passenger seat, think a little bit of wee came out while he [Adamson] got us across three lanes in five seconds!’

Fans immediately tweeted back their good wishes, and some offered to drive him from the scene of the accident, near Stafford, to Swindon. However, none would have got him to the Wyvern Theatre on time and he had to cancel the show, which has now been rescheduled t August 13.

Meanwhile. Eamonn Holmes sent Manford a tongue-in-cheek message which said: ‘At least you lived to tell the tale. I would have felt so guilty taking over The One Show.’
