Baftas? We're in the Thick Of It

Satire's clean sweep

The Thick Of It cleaned up at the Bafta awards on Sunday night, wining gongs for best sitcom, and best comedy actor and actress.

Peter Capaldi, who plays fierce spin doctor Malcolm Tucker, and Rebecca Front – aka hapless minister Nicola Murray – were awarded their accolades at the London Palladium.

Accepting the best sitcom prize, creator Armando Iannucci thanked Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg for ‘completely destroying our plans for the next series’.

The other comedy award of the night went to BBC One’s Armstrong and Miller Show.

And The Inbetweeners won the audience award voted for by viewers – ironically ahead of The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent, both of which make heavy use of public votes themselves.
