Eddie in another Race

Broadway role for marathon-running comic

Eddie Izzard is to star in a new Broadway play.

The comic will replace James Spader in the David Mamet play Race from June 20.

He will play lawyer Jack Lawson, one of a team representing a white client accused of raping a black woman.

The play, which has been praised for snappy dialogues and unexpected plot twists although only cautiously welcomed by critics, is scheduled to run at the Ethel Barrymore Theater until August.

Izzard made his Broadway debut in the 2003 revival of A Day in the Death of Joe Egg.
