Little Britain stars sign ad deal

Characters to plug Nationwide

Matt Lucas and David Walliams are to front a series of adverts for the Nationwide Building Society using their Little Britain characters.

Under the lucrative deal, characters including Vicky Pollard, Lou and Andy, and ‘rubbish transvestites’ Emily and Florence will feature in a campaign for the first time.

The first TV ad, which airs this Sunday, features Vicky Pollard and a friend who mistake Nationwide for a chip shop. The second ad features Emily and Florence trying to open an account.

A third, World Cup themed ad, features Lou and Andy alongside footballers Peter Crouch, Theo Walcott, Jermain Defoe and David James and England manager Fabio Capello.

One billboard features a Pollard next to the tagline: ‘No but yeah but no but yeah but no but yeah but no shareholders? With no shareholders to pay dividends, our focus is you. Proud to be different.’

The first ad is online at MediaGuardian.
