Ade: I'm done with comedy

'My heart's not been in it for a decade'

Adrian Edmondson says his comedy career is over, admitting he has been merely going through the motions for the past decade.

The former Young Ones star has appeared in comedy shows such as ITV1’s sitcom Teenage Kicks over the past ten years, but confessed: ‘My heart’s not really been in it… I enjoyed my time doing comedy but I just had enough.

Edmondson now tours with his folk-punk band the Bad Shepherds, and says it’ s ‘much more fun’ than comedy

When asked whether it marked the end of his comedy career, he said: ‘I think that ended some time ago. I think I hung my boots up about ten years ago, really. Certain things have gone on since then but my heart’s not really been in it.

In the interview with online newspaper Dorset Weekender, the 53-year-old also said a reunion with Rik Mayall was also unlikely adding: ‘We keep talking about doing something in about 15 years but I don’t think it will ever happen. ‘

He also said that Bottom was the best thing he achieved professionally – ‘much better than The Young Ones, I thought’.
