Honeymoon ON Vegas

Johnny 'weds' couple – then pays for a getaway

Johnny Vegas staged a fake wedding for a couple at a comedy show – then paid for them to go on honeymoon.

But the break was only a practice, too – a night at the Park Inn Hotel in St Helen’s, Merseyside.

Vegas dragged 35-year-old Jamie Morton and 31-year-old Hazel Morrison on stage at the Comedy Zoo night in his home town after learning they were engaged.

Jamie said: ‘I met Hazel through a dating website two years ago, We both love comedy and love watching Johnny in Benidorm.

‘When he found out we were getting married he dragged us up on stage. He pulled out a best man and bridesmaids and rehearsed the ceremony. It was a great laugh.

‘It was only afterwards that we took a call saying that Johnny offered us a ‘honeymoon present’ with a paid-for room at The Park Inn. The night at the hotel was great but I think we’ll be looking at going on holiday somewhere exotic with a beach.’

Vegas also gave the couple – who plan a register office wedding in July – a bottle of Jim Beam whiskey after the show.

He said: ‘This impromptu wedding and honeymoon was exactly the kind of unpredictability that spurred us to set up The Comedy Zoo. I’m happy to have the audience play a big part in how the evening unfolds, which also helps because I’m probably the most disorganised compere ever.’
