Reggie returns

BBC orders second series of Perrin

The BBC has ordered a second series of Reggie Perrin.

Simon Nye, the writer behind Men Behaving Badly and David Nobbs, the creator of the original Seventies show, have written six new 30-minute episodes, to be filmed in front of a studio audience.

BBC commissioner Cheryl Taylor said the corporation would continue to nurture studio-based sitcoms – even though recent efforts such as Big Top and The Persuasionsists have proved flops.

‘The studio sitcom is a genre we are committed to developing and I’m delighted that we have inspirational writers such as Simon Nye and David Nobbs to help promote the cause,’ she said.

Martin Clunes will again as Perrin when the series returns later this year, alongside a returning cast which includes Fay Ripley, Wendy Craig, Geoffrey Whitehead, Neil Stuke, Kerry Howard and Jim Howick.

BBC One controller Jay Hunt, said: ‘Millions of BBC One viewers enjoyed following the trials and tribulations of Martin Clunes as Reggie Perrin in the last series. I am delighted the show will be returning.’
