Surreal sitcom for BBC Three

This Is Jinsy gets a pilot

BBC Three is to broadcast a pilot episode of an absurdist comedy, about the bizarre residents of the fictional island of Jinsy.

Guernsey-based comedians Chris Brand and Justin Chubb have created the surreal comedy, which is set to air over the next couple of months.

The cast include island’s big-brother style guardians Maven and Sporrall, who watch over all the residents on CCTV, transvestite folk singer Melody Lane, and a couple of seagulls. The islands speak in a strange semi-archaic language with plenty of made-up words.

Carey told TV trade magazine Broadcast: ‘It has got a unique voice. Whatever you think of This Is Jinsy, you have to respect the fact it is not anodyne.’
