450,000 call for Gavin & Stacey's return

Fans flock to Facebook campaign

A Facebook petition to bring back Gavin & Stacey has been signed by 450,000 fans in just three weeks.

Organisers hope the strength of feeling will persuade writers Ruth Jones and James Corden to make another series.

However, the duo have been adamant that the third series would be the last – even though star Larry Lamb has hinted that the cast might return for a Christmas special.

There are 95 Facebook groups calling for the sitcom to return – some with as few as one member – as well as one lone group calling on the BBC to ensure it never comes back.

However the group that bills itself as the ‘official’ campaign is by far the most popular. Organisers say they will present the petition to the BBC once it reaches 500,000 names.

Melanie Walters, who plays Stacey's mum Gwen, told Wales on Sunday: ‘It's extraordinary that so many people have signed up - they clearly love it. But as far as I know James and Ruth have no intention of doing any more episodes.’

And star Mathew Horne said: 'I think we tied it up really well. It should be left where it is without dragging it out.'

A similar internet campaign to bring back Stewart Lee’s Comedy Vehicle, run via the Petition Online website, has attracted 2,217 signatures
