Cannibal! The Musical hits London

South Park creator's student film

A musical film that South Park creator Trey Parker made while still a student is to hit the London stage.

Cannibal! The Musical is a comedy based on the true story of Alferd Packer, a gold prospector who became the only American ever to be convicted of cannibalism after his party got lost in the snow-bound Rocky Mountains.

Parker directed the movie – which has been likened to a cowboy version of the Rocky Horror Show – while at the University of Colorado in 1993, and starred in it alongside his South Park co-creator Matt Stone. The film began as a three-minute trailer made for his film class, and the full feature was shot for just $70,000.

It since became a cult hit, and now a live version is to be staged at the Leicester Square Theatre, following a test run at the 2008 Edinburgh Fringe.

The show will run in the venue’s studio-sized basement for seven weeks from July 27, but no casting has yet been announced. Click here for tickets, or here to buy the movie on DVD..
