Carr: I'll happily take a pay cut

Alan faces up to recession

Alan Carr has said he is ‘all for’ taking a pay cut when his Channel 4 contract comes up for renewal next year.

The comic has already been warned he will have to take a lower fee when his two-year deal, worth an estimated £3million, is up– even though he is one of the broadcaster’s hotter stars.

‘They’ve asked me to take a pay cut, and I definitely will,’ he said: ‘I’m all for it, we’ve all got to pull together, haven't we?’

In an interview with the London Evening Standard, Carr – who has been nominated for three British Comedy Awards – said it was ‘ridiculous’ he earned more than a fireman or a nurse.

But he added: ‘I’m making hay while the sun shines because none of it lasts for ever, does it?’

‘By the time the good times return, and Channel 4 can properly afford me, my career will be on the skids. I’ll be degreasing gearboxes and slagging off celebrites for earning too much. Oh yes. I can see it all now.’
