The Onion’s internet sketches could be made into a TV series.

America’s Comedy Central is to make a half-hour pilot based on sports reports from the fake news source.

The cable network’s Lauren Corrao said: ‘We are thrilled to be in business with a cultural icon like the Onion to give our audience the sports show they deserve.’

The show could be a useful companion to fake news programmes The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report, which already air on Comedy Central in the US.
