A Strong contender...

Count Arthur wins radio's Sony Award

Count Arthur Strong's Radio Show has won the top award for radio comedy.

The Radio 4 show won the Gold Sony Award, with judges saying the show was ‘a traditional format made contemporary and edgy by strong writing and great performances. It simply makes you laugh out loud.’

The comedy stars Steve Delaney as the eponymous central character – a confused and washed-up entertainer - while the cast also includes Sue Perkins, Alastair Kerr, David Mounfield and Terry Kilkelly

The silver award went to Adam and Joe’s 6 Music show – which also came second in the entertainment category, where they lost out to Chris Evans on Radio 2.

Judges said the pair ‘have developed the must listen show for radio cognoscenti. Great creativity, quirky humour and detailed preparation make this the best current weekly music and entertainment radio offering.’

Third place in the comedy category went to the Now Show, with its citation reading: ‘Confident performances and writing, this programme stays the right side of the comedy line, whatever the subject matter’.
