Rhod whinges, 4.5m listen

Gilbert is a YouTube smash

Rhod Gilbert has one of the hottest stand-up clips on YouTube – attracting almost 4.5million viewers to his rant about lost luggage.

The routine he performed on Australia’s Rove chat show in 2007, dwarfs the audience for the original TV broadcast and makes him the only British comic in a top ten list.

It was uploaded by a South African YouTuber, who labelled it ‘most funny stand up comedy sketch’ but did not mention Gilbert’s name, calling him simply 'comedian from Wales'. But because it was uploaded illegally, no one will earn any money from it.

The most popular YouTube clip, according to Chortle’s top ten, is Pablo Francisco doing a routine about the voiceover artist who does cinema previews. Many might consider the routine hack, but it has attracted 6.6m views.Second is a more unexpected clip, with little-known musical comic Rob Paravonian performing a routine about classical composer Pachelbel. While Chris Rock comes in third.

The full list is:

  1. Pablo Francisco on Previewman 6.64m
  2. Rob Paravonian on Pachelbel 6.6m
  3. Chris Rock on Rap Music: 5.84m
  4. Dave Chappelle on weed 4.89m
  5. Kat Williams 4.63million
  6. Rhod Gilbert on lost luggage 4.47m
  7. Robin Williams on Bush & Obama 4.41m
  8. Jeff Dunham: Ahmed The Terrorist 4.12m
  9. Eddie Murphy on Michael Jackson 4.11m
  10. Chris Rock on Michael Jackson 3.93m
