BBC to relaunch comedy website

...with commissions for new talent

The BBC has announced a relaunch of its comedy website with a promise to commission web-only programming.

The corporation says Comedy Extra will support up-and-coming comedians as well as featuring material from archive shows when it launches later this month.

Executive producer Will Saunders said: ‘Comedy Extra will be a new low-risk playground for BBC Comedy. It's a place to develop the next generation of comedy talent and somewhere you will find established names taking risks and doing something a bit different.’

Commissioner Martin Trickey added: ‘I want Comedy Extra to “be” funny rather than “about” funny.’
