44 new Simpsons episodes ordered

The Simpsons is to become the longest-running scripted show ever to grace American screens.The Fox network has ordered another 44 episodes of the animated comedy over two more series, ensuring the shows’ future until 2011.
By the time the last of the commissioned shows has aired, the programme will have run for 493 episodes over 22 seasons.
The only show to run for longer is the Ed Sullivan Show – a talk show which ran for 24 series.
Fox has just started a year-long celebration of The Simpsons’ 20th anniversary, as the first episode was broadcast on December 17, 1989
