Shane Richie returns to stand-up

For a Sky 1 special

Shane Richie has returned to his stand-up roots for a new show for Sky 1.

The former EastEnders star performed at Dublin’s Laughter Lounge last week, after learning to be an ‘Irish comedian’.

But the Londoner does come from an Irish Catholic family, and started his career as a Pontin’s bluecoat before turning to the comedy circuit.

He was given tips from Limerick-born stand-up Karl Spain before taking to the Laughter Lounge stage. Club owner Peter O'Mahony said: ‘Shane did very well and crowd really liked it.’

Richie’s performance will go out as part of the special St Patrick’s Day line-up on Sky 1 on March 17, which also includes a world premiere of an Irish-themed episode of The Simpsons.

Richie now hosts the game show Don't Forget the Lyrics for the channel, and also stars as Archie Daley in Five’s revival of Minder.
