Fans rally round Russell

212 call to praise C4 show

Hundreds of viewers have phoned in about the latest Russell Brand TV appearance … but this time to praise him.

Channel 4 receive 212 emails and phone calls supporting his new Ponderland stand-up show in the wake of the furore over his obscene phone call to Andrew Sachs.

His fans’ support made the programme the most-praised show on the channel last month.

However, Ponderland also received 164 complaints, according to trade magazine Broadcast, athough many of these were registering dismay that the programme was aired at all, rather than gripes about the actual content.

Meanwhile, Peter Kay’s Pop Idol spoof divided the Channel 4 audience, attracting 40 items of praise, but 60 complaints.

Jamie Oliver's Ministry of Food was the most complained-about show in October, with 413 calls about the chef’s swearing.
