6.1m see reality show spoof

Peter Kay brought Channel 4 its biggest audience of the year so far with his spoof reality show last night.

A total of 5.5million people – one in five of all TV viewers at the time – tuned into the first part of his show between 8pm and 9.15pm.

Another 600,000 watches the show, Peter Kay's Britain's Got The Pop Factor And Possibly A New Celebrity Jesus Christ Soapstar Superstar Strictly On Ice. on the timeshift service, Channel 4+1.

It was only beaten in the ratings by a genuine reality show, Strictly Come Dancing, which attracted an average 7.4 million viewers.

Peter Kay’s ‘results’ show an hour later was seen by 3 million viewers, plus another 200,000 on Channel 4+1.

Meanwhile, the song that featured in the show – The Winners’ Song – as performed by Kay in character as Geraldine Mcqueen is released as a single today.Click here to buy it.
