Izzard's Riches run out

US series cancelled

Eddie Izzard’s American TV series, The Riches, has been axed.

The FX network decided to cancel the drama after two series after ratings slumped by more than 40 per cent.

The show started in March 2007, with a relatively healthy audience of 3.8 million, but viewers in the key 18-49 age bracket deserted the second series – which was cut short by the writers’ strike earlier this year. In total, just 20 episodes were ever made.

Izzard starred opposite Minnie Driver as two crooked drifters who settled down in a wealthy neighbourhood after stealing a new identity.

Since the series ended in April, Izzard has returned to stand-up, with a US tour. He plays 23 dates in the West End’s Lyric Theatre from November 23. Tickets.

The cost of FX’s production slate was a factor in cancelling The Riches, trade paper Variety reports.
